This seldom seen in captivity tree boa is found in a patchy distribution from northern South America up to Costa rica, the patchy distribution may e a feature of the secretive lifestyle of this snake leading to uneven capture/ditribution data. Growing to 6-7 feet in length and much more bulky than Amazon tree boas, these snakes come in two known colour phases, red/orange and the more commonly seen chocolate brown/grey variety. Annulateds are completely the opposite of C.hortulanus in temperament, being shy and retiring and they much prefer to spend time in a hide box if possible, comming out at dusk to hunt for food, they thrive on the usual rodent diet in captivity and are sure to become much more popular as captive breeding makes them more available. Care is as per amazon tree boas in all respects although growth appears to be much slower, these animals can show marked colour changes which seem to be linked to the day/night cycle. |
